How You Can Help

Fundraising for this special school is like a beautiful garden that began with just a few seeds.

The generosity that enabled 56 students to sleep on new mattresses and beds, have food cooked on a repaired stove and eat eggs from "Project Chook" came from Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Olsen from the U.K.  They were introduced to the school by Mrs. Ros de Louche after she visited her sister, Yvonne Currin, who is a resident of Ndola where the school is situated.  Yvonne has assisted with the school's fundraising projects over the last 7 years.

With the successful ongoing sales of CDs, the school is breathing easier now that additional food can be purchased by the proceeds to augment the students’ diet of rice, beans and maize. An influx of young children in January 2013 hastened the goal to build a playground that will enable the students to gain confidence in navigating various obstacles independently, improve spatial awareness and orientation, get much needed exercise, and provide what every child should have the opportunity to do – to have some fun.

Using a playground built at a local church as a template and using local materials and labour, costs are estimated at $1,200 U.S.  Within hours of making the decision, $600 in funds as well as donated labour was pledged from two Zambian businesses, by Ros De Louche who was once again visiting Zambia, from an expat, Heather Kinley, and her friend in Canada who then requested matching funds from her employer.  Another example of how a seed gets planted and grows into a garden.

We understand there are considerable needs worldwide and it can be daunting wondering how one person can make a difference.  It is important to remember when making your decision that every dollar goes directly towards supporting the health, education and well-being of the students and every donation goes a long way.

You can also help by not only making a donation, but by sending the blog’s link to others as well.

Purchase a CD

The students professionally produced CD is entitled Empowerment which is also the name of the song that personifies what the school does for them, as well as their outlook on life.

This beautiful CD gives a voice to the spirit and the souls of the students who call the school their home.  All profits from the CD will go towards food for the children.

You can listen to the choir sing one of the songs on YouTube.

Cost:
$15.00 U.S./CDN including shipping costs for international orders
K50 for orders within Zambia

To make a donation, please email nlsfvi@gmail.com to tell us how you would like to help.  We can then discuss with you the best way to send funds/goods.

The school supports full transparency and accountability by the following methods:
  • A separate bank account set up strictly for donations is held at the Zambian National Commercial Bank.
  • There are two signatories required for any withdrawals including Deacon Lucas Mubanga from the Christian Brethren Church.
  • Monthly statements of deposits and withdrawals are reviewed with an outside 3rd party.

100% of donations go towards direct support of the students and are not used for administrative purposes, salaries, utilities, etc.

Donations of money or supplies are welcomed and all make a difference. We are proud to acknowledge the generosity of our donors by adding them to our Donor Page, unless the donor requests anonymity.

Donors may designate funds go to a specific need or project.  If no specific requests are made, donations will go towards ongoing projects or food.

Receipts will be issued for donations over $25 U.S., and if you like, we would be happy to keep you updated on how your donation has helped the school.

Natotela! Thank you!
